About Me

PLEASE HELP TUDIABETES
Help us reach our to more people touched by diabetes and continue to raise awareness about diabetes

I am an Electrical Engineer (EE). I first went to school in Venezuela and then went to Cornell University (in New York state), where I obtained my M.Eng. also in EE. Still I have found my true professional love to lie in the web space, so I eventually became a Web Product Manager.

Since January 2008, I live with my wife and son in Palo Alto, CA. Here I used to work at Ning.com, the company that offers the Social Networking platform that TuDiabetes runs on. Since late April 2008 I am running the Diabetes Hands Foundation, a non-profit we created with the goal of having no people with diabetes feel alone and people without diabetes learning more about what it's like to live with diabetes.

I was diagnosed with diabetes in late 2002 (initially diagnosed and treated as type II) and formally starting shooting insulin (effectively called a "type I") in 2003. I got on the insulin pump (Minimed 515) in July 2005. I am constantly working on exercising more: that is my constant struggle. In 2007, I learned that I actually have type 1.5 diabetes!

Since September 2007, I started writing a monthly column called "Hola Diabetes" for dLife in English and Spanish, aimed at the Latino community. In May 2008, I started writing the column "Diabetes Hacker" in MyDiabetesCentral.com.

Hi Manny, This is a wonderful site!! Thank you, I finally feel at home with people who are experiencing and dealing with the same issues as myself. I wish I had known that you guys were in Orlando. After 10 years of half a** committment I am devoted to preserving my health and minimizing complications. Nervous about getting started on CGMS but I think this will be a great help in the long run. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for keeping us together!!

I realize this probably isn't the space to ask a tech question, but I can't seem to find a place here to ask this or where even to look. I accidently pressed the "block this message'" space when I didn't mean to (hard to see against the turquoise background!) so I'm asking how do you unblock and where do I go on this site to do so. Thanks Carol

I thought about waiting to set it up until I had more people, but I just decided that I should set it up and if I have to cancel it I will. I am hoping for a decent turn out. :) I'll be sure to take lots of pictures to post.
