Meter Review - Semi-Digression: When Numbers Don't Make Sense...

I haven't gotten to the point of running the contaminant tests on the meters -- I'm still trying to figure out accuracy issues with the Advocate Duo, and I'm puzzled by the results I'm getting so far on the parallel test check.

The short version is this:

When I checked my (active) Freestyle Flash last time I was in the doctor's office (June 10th), not only was my reading "in range" with the lab reading, it was spot on. Exactly the same. So, I go on my merry way thinking m…

Meter Review -- Contents and Set-Up

With all of the monitors in-hand and unpacked, it was time to inventory the included accessories and start setting up the meters for their initial tests. Most name-brand meters come packaged with cases, lancet devices, and starter-sets of strips, lancets, and control solution. There are occasional surprises -- Therasense's packaging of the original Freestyle and Freestyle Flash did not include any starter strips -- but for the most part, these are a "given". When we start to examine le…

Meter Review - First Impressions

Judging the Books By Their Covers

Having received all six meters I'm planning to look at, and their supplies, it's time to start looking at them a bit more seriously. Beyond questions of accuracy, compatibility, and cost of supplies; beyond on-device features, software compatibility, and physician preferences -- there is the issue of size. Let's face it, most of us are much more likely to travel with small, lightweight devices in compact cases, than with large ones. On the other hand…

Privately Eroding Privacy by Public Decree

The structural and ethical issues that conflict electronic health records with patient privacy are nothing new. I’ve written previously about my concerns regarding Microsoft Health Vault and Google Health; other members of this community have about electroni…

Treating Us As We Live

A ninth-grade Social Studies paper introduced me to Godfrey Higgins' Anacalypsis, a somewhat-controversial tome on comparative religion. What little of it I read helped me solidify a logical argument for mankind's many systems of religious belief: presupposing the existence of a single, omnisicent Deity Who requires the worship of Mankind, it is in His best interest to present Himself to each people in the way that they are most likely to understand, and in a way which makes each more lik… Continue

Thanks for the kind words on my background. I wouldn't call myself a photographer per se. It's just a hobby. That is one of my photos. It's a landmark bridge here in town, built in 1919.

Congrats on the 5.8 A1C! Keep up the good work!

i'm the only one who is diabetic around here so the kids will like the taters. maybe i'll try the mix with cauliflower. they like cauliflower too. besides they won't know if they like it unless they try it. if it's the only thing to eat, they'll eat it or go hungry. i'm so evil. hahaha.

hi tmana,
i just wanted to thank you for the shepard's pie recipe. i made it tonight to go with burgers for my family. i have two grandson's that are very finicky about their veggies. they both ate their helping and asked for more. everyone loved it. i like the way you can change up the veggies and cheese. i put in oregano and basil and chives. my daughter was making faces as she watched me make it. she's like me and will go a mile out of the way to avoid veggies. sigh,,but i know i must eat them and i'm working on her.
again thank-you,
debb.......................

that's why i'm not a practitioner. there are so many different avenues to go in life. i want to know about all of it. i'm not jewish, i come from a northern baptist, catholic, protestant ( for the life of me i just can't spell that word today) background. my parents never baptized me. they wanted me to decide what religion i wanted to be. i turned out to be too liberal to want any one religion. i married the catholic. they all have different aspects that appeal to me. but the biggest reason for me is that i feel everyone is all one big family. i don't care what religion, or color or if their cross eyed, or have blue eyes or green. if people are nice to me, i'm nice back. i do enjoy learning about people. what interests them. what makes them who they are today. i learn so much and make great friends along the way. i guess you could say i'm an odd ball. i don't believe in lines drawn along the sand and don't you dare cross it. everyone i meet is a new friend i haven't met before. thanks for sharing a little bit about yourself with me.

i noticed that you belonged to the pagan group. i have a sister who is pagan. she is wiccan. does it help with the diabetes when you can stay centered through the pagan rites? what are other ways that help you? my whole family on my mother's side are what my grandmother called fey. we "see' things other don't. i have dreams that come true and can tell someone is pregnant before they even know themselves. so i am a believer, just not a practitioner.
