1. Dabetes to me is the feeling of being high and low. And that is it. My goal is to find out the easiest ways for me to eliminate those feelings on a daily basis and really be able to feel my true self.
2. I stay motivated by sharing my experiences to other people who are diabetes. I mentioned earlier that it took me three years to change from doing insulin injections via a syringe to doing insulin pen injections. Because I was content with my therapy. Just talking with somebody online I was able to inform them on my experiences and they were able to make a smart decision and make that switch in less than three days. That satisfaction that they received is unbelievable. The best part is I feel even happier knowing the hardships I diverted for them.
So just remember the only thing constant in diabetes is change. When I was younger doctors told me to be a cure in five years, those days are long gone. If realizing it's something permanent is close to impossible to pass along to someone. But that something to me is only the feelings of being high and low, when I don't have those feelings I'm not diabetic.
Smiles, see there, just writing 1HappyDiabetic makes me giggle now. Well the reason I am Happy is multiple really.
1. I know "My" Disease. Diabetes for me is different. 20 years of learnings for me and my "friend."
2. I know how hard it is to make changes in "your Diabetes Management" from WHATS WORKING to WHAT WORKS BETTER! It took me 3 years to switch from Needles to Insulin Pens with 1/2 the size needle. I have felt "the regrets" already, and that takes time.
3. I change the name of everything DIABETIC..ICK!!! So instead of "Test Blood Glucose" it's "TEST BABY!!!" :-) I tell myself I am not this "Science Experiment." I'm Bill, I prick my finger faster, without anyone knowing in crowded room. I feel like Daivd Copperfield ending his performance with a blood-drop-fingerlick everytime!
4. There are many more, but this one is the most important, and if I Hit send, and all this publishes I will be impressed. But you come this far reading so here it is in a story.
I met someone who had Diabetes for 40 years. Asked him about his management. While he answered I checked my sugar, I was 110. I briefly interuptered his story and told him my sugar was 110 and I would be back because I was going to my car to get 2 Glucose tabs. When I came back, he said before I could sit back down "See, that's what I am talking about, I couldn't do THAT."
I said, what? He said "Go do that, its too much."
I said, what having glucose tabs in my car? He said Yes, I know when I my sugars are High and I know when I am low, I've had this disease a long time."
AND THEN I DISCOVED THE ANSWER TO A GREAT QUESTION>>> WHAT IS DIABETES TO YOU???
Once you figure that out. Tell me given the clues, and there it is.
No not weird at all for your allerigies to hit you in your 20's like I said mine decided to wait till I was 35 to show their ugly head! HA!! Something my mom always told me was not to laugh at others you may get it. Well looks like she was right on that one!!!! HA!!!
