The Honeymoon is OVER!

its been 7 months and we just went to the Dr. last week for his three month check up and the Dr. said he is officially not honeymooning anymore! his sugars have been running extreamly high for a while and the weekly call ins have not helped much. But now he has gone from 5 units of lantis at night to 9 and his meal correction is 1 unit for every 15 carbs.. i think that is too much cause he is going low after every meal. ill call in tomorrow and see if they will change it. He has adjusted well..… Continue

trial and error on insulin adjustments happen, especially if your son is still growing. you can't be supermom, but just the best mom you can be, and you're doing great!

Good morning Kaci! Sorry I hadn't gotten back to you latley but I had to pull a hospital stay then found out I'm gonna be a grandma again!!!! How's your son doing?

Better in the sense that things will be more predictable (: It is so hard when sometimes you are making insulin, sometimes not, but you are allover the board from basement to ceiling with your sugars- Blecch- not that there isn't any at all, but you end up learning how you "usually" react with foods/ activities/ hormones... (:

Wow, just the beginning of August and then school! What a lot to handle. I am so sorry about the diagnoses. It isn't easy. My husband is type 1 as well as my son.
I am sorry it took so long for me to answer your question. I haven't checked my page in a while. I bought my salter scale online at a pharmacy in canada that deals with diabetic supplies. I love it. It has many foods in its memory and you just put the empty bowl on before you turn it on and it doesn't count the bowl. You weigh the food and it tells you all the nutritional info plus including the carbs and net carbs. It is a wonderful tool. I go through phases with how closely I measure. We typically eat mostly the same things and just give his insulin the same at most meals, but for food I am not sure about, it is amazing!
You are in my prayers!

this probably sounds weird, but sometimes when I'm high I feel low. sometimes my head feels really heavy. other times I'm just really really thirsty and peeing every 15 minutes. this is why my teachers need to know I'm diabetic, so they know to let me leave to go to the loo every 5 seconds if I need to and that I might have to go refill my water bottle. I basically feel just like I did before I was diagnosed.
I'm also honeymooning, and the lowest I've tested at is 3.2mmol/l, which I didn't feel.

I'm not doing so good at the moment. Let's just say I understand the not being able to stop crying thing.
And I should've passed on the rice pudding and jam this lunchtime...
How are you and Hunter?

Hey Kaci--
I was diagnosed at Children's in 1986 and had care there for years! Dr. Elders was my doctor but I don't think she's there anymore. I am so happy you care about your son so much.
