Is our drinking water causing diabetes?

I just read a disturbing article about arsenic in drinking water possibly contributing to diabetes. The link is that people with a higher concentration of arsenic in their bodies have a much higher incidence of diabetes: http://health.usnews.com/articles/health/diabetes/2008/08/19/is-your-drinking-water-giving-you-diabetes.html

Going green for our pets

Here's the latest Pet Health Focus Newsletter: *** Going Green for your Pets *** Eddie, the spokesdog for Pets for the Environment, has a lot to say about chemicals that affect him. Canine Diabetes

Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common hormonal disorders in dogs. Statistics show that one in 400 dogs develop diabetes. So you and your diabetic dog are not alone - many other pet owners are helping their dogs stay healthy and live normal lives with this disease.

Types of Diabetes

Most diabetic dogs have diabetes mellitus (pronounced MEL-uh-tus). In diabetes mellitus, the pancreatic islet cells that produce insulin are destroyed during episodes of pancreatitis or when t…

I belong to a diabetespet email group. I've lost my diabetic Pom, Conan Jan 09, 2007. He lived almost 9 years with the diabetes, I got along with him as I'm diabetic and legally blind from premature birth, so we had a lot in common :-)

Hi Amy----I will definitely check out your website. We have taken in stray cats for almost 30 years now---we work with our vet to get them cleaned up, spayed or neutered and into new homes. There are always a few who are too unsocialized or ill in a way that we can work with but few others will---like FIV positive---we have given happy and healthy years to several of those.
Anyway, our first diabetic kitty moved in about 15 years ago, already a mature dominatrix, and was with us for about 8 years. Interestingly, one day after I gave her her shot, she went all woozy and we rushed her to the ER vet and by gum, she wasn't diabetic anymore---how I wish such a thing could happen with people! Our vet says it is rare but does happen in cats. She died finally of all the geriatric problems pets have---we keep a permanent fluids station in the living room, for instance, since there always seems to be a beloved old one with failing kidneys.
I'm babbling now, but you set me off on reminiscing about Sophia who was a wonderful part of our household!
Glad you are here and thank you for the good and caring work you are doing in the world!

My first dog was diabetic too. We made a deal that I wouldn't give her shots and she wouldn't give mine. Worked out well for both of us. Have a great day.
