105 Miles in the Heat RIDE TO CURE DIABETES Another 105 miles in the heat of Death Valley!!! I will ride anywhere to help raise money for JDRF. Please visit my Ride Web page if you would like to donate online or see how close I am to reaching my personal goal: http://ride.jdrf.org/rider.cfm?id=7727 Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as you're able? Together, we can make the cure a reality. Thank you, Chad
Well - The snow is (mostly) gone from the Hudson Valley and for Team Chad and Dad that means it's time to start training for the Ride to Cure Diabetes; a 105 mile bike ride through beautiful downtown Death Valley. Chad and Dad (that's me) participated in the Ride to Cure Diabetes in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2007. Now we are starting to train for 2008. Read about Team Chad and Dad in this 08/19/2007 article published in the Kingston Daily Freeman
2007 Daily Freeman Ride to Cure Diabetes article

What keeps us going?

The answer is simple - we want to find a cure for diabetes... and this is one way we can help make a difference.

One way YOU can help make a difference is to support us by making a contribution in our name to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation). Team Chad and Dad has raised just over $42,000 in our past 5 rides... this year we hope to bring that total to OVER $50,000.

Please consider making a contribution. Online donations can be made at

or go to

and click on our names or Mail a donation to JDRF,
11 Marshall Rd, Suite 1H, Wappingers Falls NY 12590
and enclose a note that it is for Team Chad and Dad's Ride to Cure Diabetes.

Thank you for you kind consideration and support at any level.

Chad and Charlie Lawrence

50 mile ride to endo

I will be riding my bike from kingston, ny to albany, ny to go to my next doctors apt. I figured it would be a good training ride for my next ride to cure diabetes. Im hoping my next A1C will be just as good or better than the 5.6. Well, I will fill you in on how my trip goes, just hoping it is not 96 degrees like it is today.

Chad, since you and I are generally in the same neck of the woods, do you know any Type 1 kids in the area? I'm trying to find others that my son (8) can meet... because Moms are just not cool enough to totally understand, if you know what I mean.

And by the way, how's training going?

Hi Chad! Perfect person for my question! I'm looking at getting a MTB to get back into XC racing and a few marathon events for 2009. I raced when I was in my late teens but have been out of the MTB scene for awhile. I was looking at either a Cannondale Scalpel 4 or a Specialized Stumpjumper FSR comp to start with. Any thoughts one way or the other on these models? Or anything I should be looking for over all in a bike?

Thank you for the comment. I met with the diabetes consultant today, and I decided to go with the pump. I should have it in a few weeks.

Nice fund raising stuff. I haven't done much of it but I'm going to steal some of your ideas. Cool pics. I was thinking of doing the death valley ride but I am doing some other long races (leadville 100, etc) and would probably need a divorce lawyer if i did it... Have fun and if you ever come through colorado I'll show you some cool rides.
