A little extra about me

I have been married for 8 years (7-23-1999) My husband is from Arkansas and I am from Kentucky. We met when we were 16 working at a local grocery store in KY. We have 2 boys. Austin is 7 (3-3-2000) Chris is 5 (3-27-2002) I was diagnosed as a diabetic on March 12, 2007. I take 10 cc Byetta twice a day and 1000 mg of Metformin twice a day. I don't eat properly or exercise. My goal for the year is to lose weight. We adopted a dog call Jax. Thats really about it. If you have any questions please ask.

New Insulin

I am now taking Lantus and Novolog. Lantus is supposed to be a slow release insulin that I take once a day at bedtime. I take 10 units. Novolog is a fast acting insulin. I take it 3 times a day 10 minutes before each meal. I take 7 units of this. I was told that I had to be real careful with the Novolog because it acts so quickly that my sugar will drop fast. The pharmacist said that it peaks 1-3 hours after the dose and will last for 3-5 hours. So, how far do I spread my meals out? Do I still n… Continue

I am now on insulin . . . now what?

The doctor put me on insulin today. After taking it I have a slight headache. Could be from the stress today or just from the insulin, right? He also kept me on Metformin. I now take 15cc of insulin twice a day and 1000mg of metformin twice a day. I also take a depression pill before bed. I am upset about having to take the insulin. I have always been told that once I did take insulin that I always would. I so bad wanted to do this on my own, but I just couldn't. Sometime I still think I am in d… Continue

Tomorrow is the day

I feel like tomorrow is D-day. My one year anniversary being a diabetic. It sucks, really. I still have yet to get this under control. I am the worlds worst procrastaning person. I don't want to do anything until the poop hits the fan. I need my poop to hurry up and hit so that I will get this under control. LOL! I can do this I just won't. I am honest about it. I don't know where or how to get the motivation to be successful at being a diabetic. I don't know what to do.

One Year Diabetic Anniversary - how sad

I am fast approaching my one year anniversary since I was dx as a diabetic. The day will be March 12. I am not looking forward to this at all. I so remember when the dr gave me the new I was like, nope, test again. You have got the wrong results. But instead I was wrong. Then I had all these hopes that this would go away. I am the first to admit that I don't follow the "rules" like I am supposed to. I really wish there was some way to wiggle my nose and poof, the diabetes will be gone. But no to… Continue

Stressing . . . but still working on it!

So, I have a lot of stress right now. My husbands great uncle passed a few days ago. My dog was ran over by a car and he died instantly. The boys are driving me crazy. How does stress affect this disease? Should I test more often? I am still not doing a well as I should but I am changing/adding something every 14 days. I am already taking my meds regulary. My next step is to do a food journal. Then exercise daily. I do exercise occasionally but not as much as I should. I figured that med control… Continue

Hi Amanda,

Working at night does complicate things. Changes in eating and sleeping patterns will upset your internal clock. At least initially this will likely cause problems with your blood sugars. I advise that you continue to take your meds the same way as you do now, at mealtime, and see what happens. Take your Byetta 1 hour before eating and metformin with food to avoid stomach distress. If your Lexipro causes drowziness, take it before you sleep. In a few weeks most people make the adjustment and you should see your blood sugars stabilize. If they don't, call to your endocrinologist or regular physician. Let me know how it goes.

You're welcome Amanda. I'm glad you took action. :-)
You sound like you have everything planned out, that's great!
I also joined a diabetic support group, headed by one of the diabetes dietitians, but I had to stop going due to my mum having and operation and having to stay with her constantly for 4 months but I'm planning to return to it beginning of February. It's held once a week here and the few times I had attended I felt pretty good, It makes you realize you're not going through all this alone and everyone is supportive and full of advice.
I'm also going to restart the water exercises that I had to stop for the same reason. At the moment I can't do any other exercises or walk and I found the water exercises easy to do and it made me feel really good and pleased with myself at the end of each session.
Take care Amanda,
Loren
