About Me
I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on christmas eve of 1981 ... I was only 5 years old. My father was type 1 so my parents recognized the symptoms immediately and fortunately that was to my benefit since they caught it early. After being on MDIs for 25 years and my current endo mentioning how great the pump is for a few years, I finally decided to take the plunge in January of '07. It created a whole new outlook on my diabetes management and I haven't looked back since!! After 17 months of hard, hard work, I finally got my a1c to 6.4 =) I could seriously kick myself for not going on the pump sooner!! I try not to dwell on that aspect and instead just LOVE my minimed and what it does for me!
I have an identical twin sister who has provided the greatest nephew and niece I could ever ask for :) I've been married for 5 years to a wonderful guy who is also an identical twin ... and no my sister is not married to his brother ha ha. My father passed away from diabetes complications 5 years ago and not a day goes by that my heart doesn't ache and I don't think of him.
I work for an investment bank in the Finance area .. something I've been doing for 10 years. It's good $$ and I enjoy it but sometimes the hours are just too much. But I give my all to everything I do and that is no different.
I love shopping, new technology devices, spring and fall weather, my 2 fuzzy ferrets, relaxing or even better sleeping, cute and mushy emails, a good movie, texting, laughter.

...hey what's the story behing the JDRF Sneaker Plaque you have? it looks pretty cool... i wanna know more about it.
I've been setting new goals for myself in my diabetes. I hope I can achieve the kind of results with my a1c you have recently. TuDiabetes is great too, and helps with motivation and support and with meeting with people like you. Thanks for sharing.
Just remember it's how we do on average over the long term that really counts. If you can keep it under 7, you're still an inspiration to me.
I'm sorry your Dad's life circumstances made it hard for him to always be diligent about his diabetes. I have a story for you....about a 6 months ago my daughter put on one of her dress-up costumes, a white fairy dress, and told me she was getting married..and asked me to marry her. Cute. While we were dancing (which is her concept of getting married), I looked at her and realized that if I didn't renew my dedication to controlling my diabetes, I might not live to see her actual wedding. Now I carry I picture of her in that costume, and I had it imprinted onto a necklace I wear, to motivate myself. I find it helps a great deal.
The ironic thing is that not too long ago I saw a commercial on television in which a diabetic man is talking about his intention to take care of himself and dance with his daughter at her wedding! Hah....they took my idea!
