My step in the right direction, I found it here!!!

Hi, I am new to this blogging thing and never thought I'd find a place to talk about my Diabetes. Yes, I am now finally admitting the fact that I have Diabetes and I need to take control ASAP. I was diagnosed back when I was in the Third grade. Wow, so long I can't count 20+ years at least. Well, times are changing and I am beginning to see now what I was told then, but was I ever listening? Not as much as I wish I did. First I blame myself, then my Dr's growing up. I will never forget the day my general Dr. told my mother that I didn't need to see an endocrinologist. Years later I was in the hospital with DKA and had a nurse gasp when I said I didn't have an Endocrinologist. That day on I knew. A year later I spent time online researching pumps. (Something I swore I'd never want) and then for the first time I made the call. I admit finding out that my ins. covered all expenses made it even easier! I have been on the MiniMed pump for a little over a yr. and I love it!!! It lowered my A1c drastically and now I need to get it to the normal range with help of diet, exercise, and learning how to fine tune my little purple friend.
I really want to be able to have a baby one day and I am here to meet others like me.

Popeye would be so proud...

This dieting thing has done one thing so far and that is making me one with the food lables. Today at the grocery store I couldn't help but look at the nutritional info on every single thing I picked up. I was a little disappointed with the diet frozen meals which I thought were a bit expensive, but worth it when I don't feel up to prepairing the night before for lunch. One brand was on sale and looked pretty good, however the saying, "Don't judge a book by it's cover" seemed to pop into my hea… Continue

We are the exact same # and although I wish neither of us were at 11.1, it makes me feel so much better knowing that I am not the only one struggling, although I know my biggest obstacle is myself. What do you think you struggle with the most? I think for me it is a split between my own laziness and the extra weight (I know that sounds so vain). BUT, at least now I am actually paying attention and TRYING!! So that is certainly a step in the right direction :) I am here whenever you need!!

Hey Jessica - I'm with ya sister! I would love to have a baby one day, too. Although I'm not married yet, I know it is important to start planning now because the change isn't something that can happen overnight. The pump has helped me tremendously. I'm sure we can all help each other on this journey. I'm looking forward to getting to know you! :)

Hi Jessica!! I saw your comment in the "Oh Baby" group ... I to am 30 and wanting to get pregnant, that was the reason I went on the pump so that I could have a steadier level and a somewhat more normal day to day lifestyle, anyway I am very glad for this site and the blogs as I was getting a little tired of trying to explain to non-diabetecs the reason we have to plan so much a head of time before we think of baby. How long have you been married??

Hi jessica! My husband and I have been trying for a very long time(6 yrs) but hopefully it will happen soon since we now know what was getting in the way. Thanks for starting the Oh! Baby!! group. It is nice to know there are others having the same problems.

Hi Jessica, As far as the CGMS goes I really like it and use it all the time, kind of addictive. It’s impressive if you think that the technology is so new they have really only started to figure it out, yet it works well. After having a series of completely unexpected serious lows, I was pretty bummed out ,so I went to texas to get the guardian rt which at the time was only available in select cities, then later on got the minilink. It’s given me peace of mind and really helped me figure out my basal rates. I worry alot less. My only complaints with it is that the pump alarm should be louder (to wake me up when I’m low) and it should be covered by my insurance lol (and yours too! : )
